The Crying Baby Lure

“She keeps sending me all these crazy emails about how kidnappers kidnap you by playing tapes of babies so you’ll be like, “oh, a baby” and …”

Our favorite urban-legend-debunking website, Snopes.com, takes on the Crying Baby Lure. It’s a pretty awesome entry, and worth reading. Sadly, Snopes doesn’t let one cut and paste text, so you’ll have to click this link to check out the details. Here’s a portion of the false claim that circulated by email:
.
“Joan just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last and she called the police b/c it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her “whatever you do, do NOT open that door.” …He told her that they think the serial killer has a baby’s cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. …Please pass this on and do open the door for a crying baby.”
